A wealth of history.
Origins & 1984
The history of JKS Boyles dates back to 1888. In 1984, the Canadian company, JKS Smit & Sons Diamond Products, acquired Boyles Bros. Drilling Equipment Division of Dresser Industries Inc. and formed JKS Boyles International Inc. The new company represents the combined expertise of these two well-known names in the drilling industry. From JK Smit's origins in 1888 and Boyles in 1895, JKS Boyles offers two centuries of drilling experience gained in all parts of the world.
1985
In 1985, JKS Boyles International Inc. acquired their UK European distributor, Landrill Limited and established the UK based, JKS Boyles UK Limited, with the mandate to exploit the UK and international markets.
Primarily concerned with the open cast coal, site investigation and quarry industry, Landrill Limited was the largest supplier of rotary blast hole and rotary drilling bits in the UK. The addition of these to JKS Boyles International Inc. full range of products, established JKS Boyles UK Limited as the UKs premier supplier of drilling equipment.
The expanse of the product range made it necessary to relocate the company’s operations from its original premises in Sunbury-on-Thames to a larger facility in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, more strategically placed for servicing the UK market.
Initially the JKS Boyles UK Limited customer base cantered on British Coal, with 213 JKS Boyles rigs operating underground. The imminent decline in the UK coal industry, however, accelerated a pre-determined objective to increase the organisations sales effort in the international market; an objective which has been successfully achieved.
Early 1990
In the early 1990s JKS Boyles UK Limited relocates to Alfreton, Derbyshire.
1997
In 1997, JKS Boyles Nederland formed, a fully owned subsidiary of JKS Boyles UK Limited. JKS Boyles Nederland covered sales to Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
pivotal 1998
Atlas Copco acquires JKS Boyles International Inc, expanding North America and global presence in the Underground and Surface Drill markets.
JKS Boyles UK Limited separated and obtained brand rights maintaining presence in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
JKS Boyles UK Limited and Comacchio S.p.A (a drill rig manufacturer in Riese Pio X, Veneto), form a partnership. To date the partnership is the strongest it has ever been, selling over 400 drill rigs into the UK and Irish markets.
2016
JKS Boyles UK Limited acquired Chenalord Engineering Limited. Adding more drill tooling manufacturing capabilities to the JKS Boyles UK Portfolio.
2019
After nearly 30 years in Alfreton, JKS Boyles UK Limited relocated to Mason House in Mansfield. By moving into a state-of-the-art facility unlike any other for our industry in the UK, it allowed JKS Boyles UK Limited to offer a wide range of offerings to customers. From in-house manufacturing of tooling and skilled fabrication to support from specialists in drilling and a large inventory, JKS Boyles UK Limited is a one stop shop for all drilling needs.
